In total, Texas added nearly four million people between 2010 and 2020. That amounts to a nearly 16% growth, according to the data.
Hays County tops the list with 53% growth between the two census counts. That county south of Austin went from 157,107 residents to 241,067 residents in the latest census.
Other counties in the top five in terms of population growth are:
- Comal County (49%),
- Williamson County (44%),
- Kaufman County (41%) and
- Fort Bend County (41%).
Collin County became the sixth in Texas to top more than a million people with this latest census count. The 2020 Census registered 36% growth, resulting in 1,064,465 people in Collin County.
The other five counties topping a million people are:
- Harris County (4.73 million),
- Dallas County (2.61 million),
- Tarrant County (2.11 million),
- Bexar County (2.01 million) and
- Travis County (1.29 million).
On the losing end in terms of population, Edwards and Schleicher counties both saw a 29% decline in residents between the two census counts. Other Texas counties that lost the most residents include Dickens County (-28%), Terrell County (-23%) and Loving County (-22%).
