Lewisville police Chief Kevin Deaver announced plans to retire after 35 years of service.

In a nutshell

Deaver has served 25 of his 35 years in law enforcement with the Lewisville Police Department. He became the department’s chief of police in 2018.

“My plan has always been to retire after 35 years,” Deaver said in a news release. “We have made many positive changes over the years, and we have a great department.”

A closer look

Deaver began his law enforcement career with the San Angelo Police Department in 1989. He has held various roles during his time with Lewisville, including patrol officer, narcotics sergeant, patrol lieutenant, community services captain and patrol operations assistant chief. He also was a field supervisor for the North Central Texas Narcotics Task Force.

Deaver played a major role in the design of the new Tittle McFadden Public Safety Center. He also helped create Lewisville’s first Mental Health Crisis Team, also known as CoCare; implemented Flock Security technology throughout the city; and led the department through the annexation of Castle Hills, COVID-19 and the protests following the murder of George Floyd.

A nationwide search for a new chief will begin immediately, City Manager Claire Powell said.

“I want to thank Chief Deaver for his years of steadfast leadership,” she said in a news release. “He has been a strong leader, pushing for innovation, prioritizing community policing, caring about his employees, and building trust within the community. Deaver is a team player, through and through.”

Looking ahead

Deaver’s last day will be Feb. 29, 2024.

“I have built life-long friends since coming to Lewisville,” Deaver said in the news release. “The police department has some of the most dedicated people I have ever worked with, and I will miss seeing what they do for our community firsthand.”
