Dallas Area Rapid Transit is celebrating its 40th anniversary of serving North Texas throughout the end of 2023.

The multimodal network of bus, rail, paratransit and commuter rail was formed Aug. 13, 1983. Since then, the agency has serviced 13 cities with about 42.7 million passenger trips per year, according to a news release from the agency.

To celebrate its anniversary, DART is holding a series of block parties across its service area. In the Lake Highlands-Lakewood area, the agency will host a block party at its SMU/Mockingbird rail station Sept. 30. A full list of events is available on DART’s website.
