A meeting where Dallas City Council members were set to consider firing or disciplining City Manager T.C. Broadnax has been delayed.

Broadnax’s performance evaluation was scheduled to occur on June 15 in a closed session, a city memo stated. However, a statement from Mayor Eric Johnson on June 14 announced the meeting will now occur on June 23.

Several City Council members who initially asked Johnson to place the item on the June 15 agenda have since asked to push it, according to the statement.

“I do not mind taking another week to ensure my Dallas City Council colleagues can get comfortable with the process,” Johnson said in the statement. “I look forward to discussing our city’s direction and future next week.”

A joint statement from council members Paula Blackmon, Cara Mendelsohn and Gay Donnell Willis echoed the mayor's statement.

"After listening to our colleagues, we have requested the city secretary cancel Wednesday’s special called meeting," the statement reads. "We believe it is important that all colleagues feel this process is fair and transparent, and we are looking forward to a frank performance review discussion."

Johnson and members of council said last week that a discussion on the city’s top post needs to occur. A statement from Blackmon cited issues within the city’s building permitting process, IT department and homelessness throughout Dallas.

Broadnax provided no additional statement beyond what was shared on June 10, according to an email from Catherine Cuellar, director of communications, outreach and marketing. In that statement, the city manager said he was “proud” of the hard work that has led to fulfillment of goals related to priorities set by council.

"Periodic performance review is critical to me and all city employees to demonstrate progress and ensure transparency for our residents, taxpayers and stakeholders," Broadnax said in his statement.
