Roanoke may soon have two new places for people to stay the night.
At its Aug. 21 meeting, Roanoke City Council approved site plans from Icon Lodging for two hotels, Residence Inn and Home 2 Suites, which will be built on the south side of Dallas Drive, across from Dorman Road. The hotels would be built on 4.5 acres, according to a council agenda memo.
The background
The lots are adjacent to a Church of Christ and Cinemark properties. A zoning change from retail to office for the 4.5 acres was approved in July 2022, and a specific-use permit for the two hotels was approved in October 2022, according to a council agenda memo. A minor plat for the property was accepted by the city and filed with the county in December 2022.
The details
Residence Inn will have 104 rooms, and Home 2 Suites will have 105 rooms, according to the memo. Residence Inn officials have applied for a building permit, said Diane Rice, Roanoke communications and public engagement officer, and city officials are waiting on a response to review comments from an Aug. 10 review from the Residence Inn applicants.
“Once all final plans have been reviewed, we will receive an updated timeline for completion,” Rice said.
