The University Interscholastic League announced the tentative 2024-25 and 2025-26 football, basketball and volleyball district assignments Feb. 1, which will affect both Keller ISD and Northwest ISD.

According to a Northwest ISD news release, UIL district assignments divide schools based on their total school enrollment.

Northwest High School will join Byron Nelson High School and V.R. Eaton High School, and play in the same District 4-6A for both the 2024-25 and 2025-26 academic years. The news release states this will mark the first time all three Northwest ISD comprehensive high schools have competed in the same district.

A Keller ISD news release states while Central, Keller and Timber Creek high schools will remain in District 4-6A, Fossil Ridge High School will move to Class 5A.

According to the Northwest ISD news release, the following area high schools will join the three Keller ISD high schools and three Northwest ISD schools in District 4-6A:

  • Hurst Bell
  • Southlake Carroll
Put in perspective

According to the Keller ISD news release, UIL set the student enrollment cutoff for Class 6A at 2,275 and above for the next two academic years. With Fossil Ridge reporting an enrollment of 2,252, it fell just below that point.

The news release states Fossil Ridge will now be one of the larger schools in Class 5A, which features schools with enrollments from 1,315-2,274.


According to the news release, Fossil Ridge High School will play in the larger 5A Division 1's District 3 for football. Other high schools in this division include:
  • Aledo
  • Azle
  • Birdville
  • Brewer
  • Denton
  • Denton Ryan
  • Granbury
  • Richland
When the Fossil Ridge Panthers compete in most other sports, including basketball and volleyball, they will be in District 5-5A. Other high schools in this district for those sports, according to the news release, include:
  • Aledo
  • Azle
  • Brewer
  • Chisholm Trail
  • Granbury
  • Saginaw
