An investment from Nippon Express Holdings Inc. will help Gatik, which specializes in autonomous middle-mile logistics, deploy its autonomous technology across the North Texas region and ultimately North America.

The details

According to a news release, as a middle-mile logistics company, Gatik specializes in medium-length trips from single digits to 150 miles long. At its AllianceTexas facility, Gatik is experimenting with autonomous trucking and is using smaller trucks for shorter and more frequent deliveries from fulfillment centers to stores in Dallas-Fort Worth. Some of the companies Gatik is working with include:
  • Kroger
  • Sam’s Club
  • Georgia Pacific
  • Pitney-Bowes
The news release states Gatik achieved the world’s first fully autonomous deliveries with Walmart in 2021. Other recent investments from Isuzu Motors and ITOCHU should help the company accelerate the transformation of middle-mile autonomy.

Quote of note

“Middle-mile autonomy is critical for solving the most pressing logistics issues businesses are facing today—ensuring faster deliveries, addressing growing labor shortages, reducing costs and meeting the rising demand for goods in this era of rapid e-commerce growth,” said Gautam Narang, CEO and co-founder of Gatik. “Our investment partnership with NX Group is a testament to the impact we’re making in North America and the confidence of global partners in our ability to meet the evolving needs of our customers.”
