Tim Raine is running for the Grapevine-Colleyville ISD board of trustees Place 1 seat.

He will run against incumbent Mindy McClure in the May 5 election.

Community Impact Newspaper sent Raine a series of questions about his candidacy. His written responses, edited for publication style, are below.

Q: What is your current occupation?
I am successfully retired after selling my business after over 24 years.

Q: Why did you decide to run for this office?
I love the district and have had four children go through the GCISD system. Having served as a past board president, I feel a more discerning voice is needed to help our district to achieve a higher level of success within our financial means.

Q: What experience—professionally or politically—do you have that would prepare you for this position?
Having served on the board before, and as a past president, I have direct and substantive experience as a board member. From a professional standpoint, I have experience as a successful small-business owner and senior-level executive experience in the banking industry. I understand the difference between needs and wants. I understand the concept of getting the most for our precious educational dollar.

Q: If elected, what would be your top priorities?
In no particular order: 1. Have the district establish clear and measurable academic achievement standards, not merely goals such as how many difficult classes are taken, etc.  2. To make sure whatever we do is sustainable within our means without raising taxes. 3. That we have sufficient processes in place for alignment of appropriate curriculum with effective oversight such that a higher level of academic achievement, above what our demographics would predict, is attained.

Q: What else do you want constituents to know about you and your background?
I've lived in GCISD for over 20 years. I know the district well. I believe history has demonstrated I served the people well and honorably before. I will serve them well and honorably again while providing substantial, relevant experience in addressing today's challenges.
