“It’s our baby,” Kim said. “We do care about this one, naturally, the most.”
The Brunch District is a family-owned breakfast and lunch restaurant that opened its first location in Colleyville in 2023.
What’s on the menu
The Brunch District has breakfast items that include omelets, skillets, Eggs Benedict and sandwiches. It also offers Tex-Mex dishes such as migas and chilaquiles as well as Southern-inspired dishes like grits and biscuits with gravy.
Some health-conscious options include avocado toast, oatmeal and the “Iron Man Scrambler,” which has scrambled egg whites with a side of miniature pancakes or toast.
Kim said the restaurant also offers seasonal items for the holidays.
“October will mainly focus on pumpkin pancakes, cinnamon white hot chocolate and a Captain Crunch smoothie for the kids,” he said.
A family affair
Kim was born and raised in Georgia. His parents moved to Seattle while he was in college and he eventually joined them to help with their businesses there. While the plan was to eventually move back to Georgia, Kim said the family ended up liking Texas.
Kim said his dad, a co-owner of the Colleyville location, chose the spot because of its unique scenery.
“He thought it was a great area. It kind of reminded us of back home because Texas doesn’t have many trees, whereas Colleyville gives us more of the Georgia feel,” he said.
Kim, his parents and his fiance work together to run the location. He said the restaurant sets itself apart from other places with its customer service.
“This is a customer service industry, so it’s the most important thing,” he said. “Being such a family-oriented restaurant, we have a good work culture and that’s important to us. [It's] being able to give the customer an experience by being team-oriented where we’re all helping each other.”
Kim said the culture of the restaurant leads to low turnover and provides customers with familiar faces.
In other news
The Brunch District opened a third location in McKinney Sept. 4. Kim said this new location will be a learning experience for the family as they plan a fourth location to open in Frisco in December.
“This is the first time we’re doing three locations at one time,” Kim said.
While there will be four Brunch District locations, Kim said the location in Addison is under new ownership. He said the McKinney location is also the first where only he and his fiance will share ownership.
The McKinney and Frisco locations have themed interior designs to fit the restaurant’s rebranding effort. Kim said the Colleyville location might slowly implement themes similar to the other locations over time.
“We might not be able to do a whole remodel, but we’ll start implementing stuff that we got from McKinney, whether it’s wallpapers that we did over there, some new lights, things like that we’ll start slowly updating,” Kim said.
