A Southlake hotel will soon add an event venue.
SRH Hospitality Southlake Realty LLC, which operates The Westin Dallas Southlake, requested a zoning change and site plan to include a variance to the masonry ordinance for an event venue.
The first reading was approved by Southlake City Council during the March 3 meeting. A second reading, for formal approval, will be on the agenda for the April 7 meeting due to Southlake canceling its second March meeting.
A closer look
Paul Barham, the CEO of SRH Hospitality, said the addition will be an "iconic structure" in Southlake. He said the hotel identified a need for an event space with an indoor component.
Barham said the working name for the project is the "Jewel Box," a reference to the design that looks like an engagement ring box.
He said the addition will feature back-of-house amenities for dining options and restrooms as well.
The gist
There will be a covered walkway from the existing hotel to the new addition, Barham said.
He said the addition will largely be a social space mainly used on weekends, but he said there could be some social lunches or meetings at the venue as well.
Barham said there will be about 3,500 square feet of "usable space" in the 5,016-square-foot project.
The plan features an outdoor venture with astroturf that will have an LED screen, which will be 30 feet wide by 8 feet tall. The design showcases large windows in the indoor space with a 21-foot ceiling, Barham said.
For weddings, he estimated the venue could hold 175 to 180 people. A standup reception could hold around 200 people, Barham said.
Diving deeper
A filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation shows the project has an estimated cost of $4.09 million.
The estimated completion of the work is Oct. 30, but the filing had a start date of Jan. 6.
The 261-room hotel opened in Southlake on Nov. 17, 2021. According to previous reporting, the hotel had been in the works since 2013.
