On Tuesday, Grapevine City Council and the Planning and Zoning Commission approved a conditional use permit for Salt Lick BBQ to allow the restaurant to have on-premise consumption of alcoholic beverages along with outside dining and outdoor speakers.

Here are 5 things to know about Grapevine's Salt Lick BBQ:

1. The restaurant will have outdoor as well as indoor seating.

There will be approximately 515 seats overall. The seating will be split into three main areas—208 seats in the barn, 199 seats near Denton Creek and 108 seats in the cellar.

2. The restaurant will be located on the 185-acre tract known as the Palmeiro Tract.

The 24,152-square-foot Salt Lick BBQ will be built at 850 Kubota Drive, which is north of Grapevine Mills near the Kubota Tractor Corp. headquarters. The restaurant will occupy about 10 acres of a 185-acre tract known as the Palmeiro Tract. The Palmeiro Tract is also home to Mercedes-Benz USA LLC, TST Impreso, a multifamily development and a water park resort. The land was purchased by the city of Grapevine from former Texas Rangers baseball player Rafael Palmeiro in 2013.

3. There are plans for the Grapevine location to feature a wine cellar.

At the restaurant's Driftwood location there is a wine cellar adjacent to the restaurant where guests can enjoy a glass a wine while being surrounded by the same vines that produced the wine. A representative for Salt Lick BBQ, Silver Garza, said there are plans for the Grapevine location to have one as well.

4. The development will feature some ecologically minded projects.

Garza said the restaurant will use water-quality measures such as rainwater collection and filtration. The restaurant will also feature gravel lots instead of paved lots as a way to control the collection of rainwater. Garza said there are also plans to have a trail leading to the restaurant from Denton Creek.

5. Salt Lick BBQ is expected to be complete in late 2018.

Currently, there are two stand-alone Salt Lick BBQ's: the original Salt Lick BBQ in Driftwood and a location in Round Rock. There are two airport locations as well: the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport and the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport. The Grapevine location will serve sliced or chopped beef, pulled pork, sausage, turkey, brisket and pork ribs.
