The Habitat for Humanity of Collin County’s CEO, Celeste Cox, announced her retirement from the position, according to a Feb. 14 news release.

Cox served the organization for more than 20 years. The board of directors named the board Vice Chair Sam Lawrence as the interim CEO, according to the release.

“Celeste has been the guiding force in taking Habitat for Humanity of Collin County from a small one-person operation to becoming the leading organization that builds affordable housing across Collin County. We can’t wait to see what Celeste accomplishes next in her amazing quest to make a difference in Collin County for those in need,” board Chair Steve Lauten said in the release.

The Habitat for Humanity of Collin County serves the entire county and is based in McKinney.

“I have been so blessed to have been a part of so many Habitat families' lives in Collin County, Honduras, Costa Rica and Dominican Republic,” Cox said in the news release. “Watching them move into their very first home and see the tears of joy on their faces has filled my heart with content. I know that doing God’s work through our staff, volunteers and donors is the best reward on Earth.”
