Plans for Grand Park are moving forward, with a groundbreaking ceremony currently scheduled for mid-April.
At their April 7 meeting, Frisco City Council members approved a $43.39 million contract with Crossland Construction Company for the park’s first phase of construction.
What you need to know
Grand Park, a planned 1,011-acre park along the Dallas North Tollway, will feature community gathering spaces, adventure play areas, sports facilities and a botanic garden with nature areas.
The first phase of the park, known as Civic Park, will span about 68 acres and feature an amphitheater, pond and walking trails, according to city documents.
Construction on Civic Park is expected to begin in April and conclude in late summer or early fall next year.
Funding for the project will come from previously approved bond funds, according to city documents.

Construction on Grand Park has been delayed due to environmental contamination at the Exide site, a former lead battery recycling plant that leaked hazardous chemicals into the soil and water, according to previous reporting.
Council previously approved a $22 million increase for environmental cleanup efforts in March, bringing the cleanup project’s budget to just over $62 million.
