Bowling Green Park in northwest Denton will undergo renovations not to exceed $1.84 million following Denton City Council's acceptance of a bid to update the park at a Feb. 17 regular meeting.
City officials adopted the improvement plan, developed by engineering firm Pacheco Koch Consulting Engineers, in 2023.

Northstar Construction earned the bid out of 16 received proposals, according to city documents. Northstar Construction's bid was for nearly $1.76 million, and the city added on nearly $88,000, or 5%, in contingency costs.
The purpose of the renovations fall under the city's Strengthen Community and Quality of Life umbrella, according to city documents. The improvements include:
- New pavilion
- Updated bike racks
- Raised planting beds
- New pedestrian bridge
- Additional trails
- New parking lot
- Accessibility improvements compliant with the Americans with Disability Act
The project is funded with a combination of 2023 bond funds, a park dedication and development fees and a grant from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department the city applied for in 2022, according to the city's website.
Looking ahead
The project proposal from Northstar Construction says workers will break ground in early March and city documents show the renovations are expected to be completed by Dec. 26 this year.
