Donatos Pizza was set to open in October but the opening date has been pushed to Dec. 17.

Coppell residents Ralph and Lynne Pence are scheduled to open one of the first Donatos franchises in Texas.

The backstory

“Ralph and Lynne both grew up in the Columbus, Ohio area, where Donatos originated in 1963,” their son Travis Pence said in an email. “Since moving to Texas, they have always longed for a pizza that has golden crispy crust, the perfect amount of sauce and aged provolone cheese with edge-to-edge toppings like Donatos. But none in the area lived up to these standards.”

Travis Pence will serve as the franchise operator. The family plans to open two more locations in the area over the next five years.

What’s on the menu

The restaurant serves pizza that features smoked provolone cheeses among other key ingredients.

“Our family-recipe pepperoni is made from a premium blend of pork and lean cuts of beef,” the company website states. “We put 100 pieces on every large pepperoni pizza we make. We use fresh, hand-cut Roma tomatoes, onions, and green peppers, and original, family recipe sausage and meatballs.”
