The Allen Police Department will receive upgraded technology to replace old equipment.
Allen City Council approved spending $399,894 for the purchase of new electronic ticket writers for the Allen Police Department at a May 12 meeting.
A closer look
Council approved the purchase as part of the consent agenda. The Allen Police Department uses electronic ticket writers to streamline the citation process, and the department’s current devices are 8-12 years old, according to city documents.
“Due to their age, many of these devices are no longer repairable and are incompatible with current software updates,” city documents state.
The updated devices will enhance efficiency and make the process more user-friendly for officers, per city documents. Funding for the new devices has already been allocated as part of the city’s approved fiscal year 2025-26 budget.
Also of note
A new headquarters for the Allen Police Department is currently under construction.
Allen voters passed an $83 million bond in 2023 to contribute funding to the project. The facility will be located on Century Parkway, between Allen City Hall and the Allen post office.
