The Harris County Emergency Services District No. 9 board is scheduled to discuss the November commissioner election, tax rate calculations for the new fiscal year and construction project updates in its upcoming May 28 meeting.

At a glance
As budget adoption for fiscal year 2026-27 approaches later this summer, the board of commissioners will set required notices for property tax rate hearings and authorize the Harris County Tax Assessor-Collector's Office to prepare tax rate calculations.
Additionally, the board is scheduled to discuss the ESD 9 commissioner election, which is expected to be called for the Nov. 3 general election. Three seats will be on the ballot in November: those held by Commissioners Naressa MacKinnon, Cameron Dickey and Rob Paiva.
Also on the agenda
Commissioners will also hear updates from two architecture firms related to ongoing fire station and dispatch center construction projects, according to agenda documents.
In April, CFFD broke ground on Station 15, a new fire station in Settlers Village in Katy, Community Impact previously reported. ESD 9 is also in the process of adding Station 17 in Bridgeland, which is expected to break ground in early fall, and remodeling the existing dispatch center on Wheat Cross Drive.
A quick note
Commissioner Jaime Martinez added several items to the May agenda—some of which carried over from the last board meeting April 16—involving CFFD response times, budget expenditures and the fire chief's evaluation.
The board will revisit Martinez's items after tabling them in April over concerns about one commissioner requesting CFFD command staff to create new reports without a board vote.
