Harris County coronavirus count: Outbreak reported at Humble rehab facility

Public health officials in Harris County and the city of Houston confirmed another 335 cases of COVID-19 June 4 along with six more deaths attributed to the coronavirus.

Harris County officials also reported an outbreak at Oakmont Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center in Humble. Two cases were detected in late April, prompting officials to launch an investigation. As of June 4, 14 COVID-19 deaths have been confirmed and 56 residents and staff are being monitored. Public health control orders have been issued to control the infection, according to a June 4 statement.

Data from the Center for Medicare and Medicaid services shows a total of 321 coronavirus deaths have been confirmed in nursing homes across the state as of June 4.

The 335 new cases in Harris County marked the third time in the past four days that more than 300 cases had been confirmed in a single day. A total of 1,383 cases have been confirmed in Harris County since the start of the week May 31, as compared to 1,450 over the course of the entire previous week between May 24-30.

A total of 182,892 tests have been conducted in Harris County, a number that includes both PCR swab tests and antibody tests. A total of 14,261 tests have been conducted since the start of the week May 31, according to state data.

Two of the six deaths confirmed June 4 were in the city of Houston, including a male in his 80s with underlying health conditions and a female in her 60s with no known underlying health conditions. Demographic information was not immediately provided for the four deaths confirmed in Harris County outside of the city.

The number of confirmed and suspected COVID-19 patients in Harris County hospitals increased for fifth straight day, according to data being tracked by the Southeast Texas Regional Advisory Council. Total cases clocked in at 670 as of June 3, compared to 501 on May 29.
