Cypress Creek Lakes hosts inaugural Zombie Stomp

With Halloween just around the corner, the master-planned community of Cypress Creek Lakes is set to debut the inaugural Cypress Creek Lakes Zombie Stomp event this weekend featuring a 5K and 1-mile family walk.

Participants will run a 3.1-mile course through the third phase of Cypress Creek Lakes starting and ending at the community's Phase 3 Recreation Center on Oct. 25. The 5K run begins at 8 a.m., and the 1-mile family walk begins at 9 a.m. All participants will receive a T-shirt, goodie bag and medal. Additionally, cash awards will be given to the winners in each age/gender group.

During the event, representatives from Cypress Creek Lakes plan to donate $15,000 to local nonprofit Cy-Hope. Founded in 2011, Cy-Hope aims to help students in Cy-Fair ISD who are economically disadvantaged through a number of programs, including the Backpack Feeding Program that sends children home with a backpack full of food for the weekend.

"We're very grateful that we had so many sponsors step up," said Randy Corson, vice president for Mischer Development. "It feels great to not only give the community a nice family-friendly event over the weekend, but to also help people who really need it."

Although the race portion of the event has sold out with 400 runners participating, guests are invited to watch the race and attend the post-race celebration that features a free pumpkin patch, bounce house, entertainers, face painting, a costume contest with a $100 prize and giveaways from event sponsors. The party also features Seth Payne from Sports 610 Radio and midday host Lauren Finkelstein from radio station Mix 96.5.

The Zombie Stomp is one of several community events Cypress Creek Lakes hosted this year in response to feedback from residents. The first event was during Memorial Day weekend and featured fireworks, live music and food trucks, and the inaugural Artisan Market is set to take place Nov. 15.

Prior to the event, guests can park at the Met Church, 9690 Fry Road, where there will be shuttles to take people to the race site at the Cypress Creek Lakes Phase 3 Recreation Center. More details can be found on the event website at www.cypresscreeklakeshoa.com/zombie-stomp.
