Jersey Village City Council is slated to discuss approving the fiscal year 2026-27 municipal budget, which includes a tax rate increase during the Aug. 18 regular meeting.
In a nutshell
Per meeting documents, the proposed tax rate for the FY 2026-27 municipal budget is above the no-new-revenue rate, which requires a public hearing in order for council to approve the rate.
Following council's direction to relook at the proposed FY 2026-27 budget in order to minimize any potential tax increases and to address additions to the budget from the July 17 budget workshop, documents show the city’s recommended tax rate of $0.817625 per $100 is lower than the originally proposed.
Some context
Council directed city staff to add items into the FY 2026-27 municipal budget that were not originally included prior to the July budget workshop, such as maintaining the minimum staffing requirement for Jersey Village Fire Department.
According to meeting documents, city staff refined the expenditure additions and were able to lower the amount by $295,000. The total additional expenditures include:
- $250,000 for JVFD overtime
- $34,000 for salary adjustments
As previously reported by Community Impact, $7.9 million of the FY 2026-27 general fund will be used for Phase 1 of the City Campus project, which includes a new facility to consolidate city administrative offices, the public lobby and public works.
