From road widenings and asphalt repairs to interchange work and transit upgrades, transportation projects are progressing across the Greater Houston region. Some are already under construction, while others are entering design, public input or bidding phases.
Here are updates on 13 transportation projects that could affect commutes. This list is not comprehensive, and details are subject to change.
Upcoming projects
Shaw Road widening
Project: Shaw Road would be widened from two to four lanes between Northpointe Boulevard and Boudreaux Road, per Harris County Precinct 3’s website.
Update: The study phase has been completed, and future roadway options are being evaluated, according to Harris County Precinct 3 officials.
Project: Gene Campbell Road will be widened to a five-lane asphalt pavement section with roadside ditches between FM 1314 and FM 1485. The project also includes a Tree Monkey Road realignment and traffic signal and intersection improvements at FM 1314 and FM 1485.
Update: Montgomery County Precinct 4 officials said the project is in negotiations with the consultant. Next steps include contract approval, then alignment and survey kickoff.
Project: The Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County is investing in upgrades at the Texas Medical Center Transit Center, including four new elevators and escalators, pedestrian skybridge rehabilitation, new walkways and electric bus chargers.
Update: Officials announced the launch of the project in March.
Project:
The intersection will be redesigned to add lanes and adjust drainage.Update: Texas Department of Transportation permitting is pending, and bidding is now expected later in 2026.
Project: The city plans to replace the intersection with a roundabout in response to increased traffic.
Update: Missouri City City Council approved a design agreement with LJA Engineering at its March 2 meeting.
Project:
The Grand Parkway will be widened from four to six lanes from West Road to south of Hwy. 290.Update: TxDOT officials said the project is on the April 6 letting schedule, with construction expected to begin over the summer.
Woodlands Parkway asphalt shoulder replacement
Project: Asphalt shoulders will be replaced between FM 2978 and I-45.
Update: Construction has started, and milling is underway on sections west of Lake Woodlands Drive to FM 2978.
Project:
Hwy. 105 is being widened from two to four lanes between 10th Street and South Loop 336.Update: According to TxDOT, the project was 60% complete as of its Feb. 18 media update.
Project: The overpass portion will widen Northpark Drive to a six-lane divided roadway between Hwy. 59 and Russell Palmer Road and add an overpass over the Union Pacific Railroad tracks and Loop 494. The reconstruction phase will extend the six-lane divided roadway from Russell Palmer Road to Woodland Hills Drive and include a pedestrian underpass near Glade Valley Drive.
Update: Houston City Council member Fred Flickinger said in the Feb. 4 newsletter that the east-west drainage connection beneath Loop 494 and the railroad tracks has been completed, clearing the way for major bridge and overpass construction.
Project:
TxDOT plans to raise the elevation of the I-10 mainlanes above the White Oak Bayou floodplain and add a 10-foot shared-use path on the north side of I-10.Update: TxDOT will hold a virtual public hearing at 5 p.m. April 9 and an in-person open house from 5-7 p.m. April 14 at the Houston District Auditorium to discuss the shared-use path.
Project:
Dual left-turn lanes and dedicated right-turn lanes will be added at Pearland Parkway and Barry Rose Road to improve traffic capacity and congestion.Update: Construction is slated to begin in April.
Project:
Huggins Drive will gain a center lane and be extended from Houston Street to FM 359. The project also includes realigning Houston Street and Dixon Road where they intersect with Huggins Drive.Update: Fort Bend County officials said they are working with Kinder-Morgan to resolve pipeline conflicts.
Project:
Asphalt will be rehabilitated on Spring Cypress Road from west of Stuebner Airline to east of T.C. Jester Boulevard and on Louetta Road from Old Louetta to east of Champion Forest Drive.Update: Work has started along Spring Cypress Road.
