Conroe will have a new mayor and at least one new council member following the May 7 city elections.
After eight years of service to the city, Mayor Webb Melder will step down from the position after serving two terms as mayor. Melder is term-limited and is ineligible to run for re-election.
Mayoral candidates Jim Gentry, Doris Hickman and Toby Powell filed for the position, and the winner will assume the mantle on issues, such as Conroe’s lawsuit against the Lone Star Groundwater Conservation District and a lawsuit filed against Conroe regarding the April Sound annexation in 2015.
City Council places 1 and 2 are also up for grabs during the May election.
