The filing period for candidates interested in running for local office in the May 4 election closed Feb. 16. Across Montgomery County, candidates have filed to run for local city and school board positions.
What you need to know
Early voting for the May elections will begin April 22 for city and school board races in Montgomery County. The last day to register to vote in the May election is April 4. To check your voter registration status, use the Voter Registration Lookup tool on the Montgomery County Elections site.

Conroe
In Conroe, three City Council positions are up for election. Mayor Jody Czajkoski did not file to run for re-election, according to the city’s website. Place 1 council member Todd Yancey did file to run for mayor, as did Duke Coon, a former Conroe City Council member.
In the city of Montgomery, three City Council positions are up for election. Mayor Byron Sanford did not file for re-election, and Place 3 City Council member Sara Countryman did file to run for mayor, according to the city secretary’s office. All candidates are running unopposed.

Montgomery ISD
Montgomery ISD’s board of trustees has two positions up for election in May. Position 5 Trustee Linda Porten did not file for re-election, according to the district.

Only one race in the city of Oak Ridge North is contested on the May 4 ballot.
Mayor
Shenandoah
The three positions up for re-election in Shenandoah are the mayor and positions 1 and 5 on the council. Two incumbent candidates, for the mayor and Position 1, did not have challengers in 2024. Position 5 Council Member Michael McLeod is not running for re-election, and Frank Robinson filed unopposed for that seat. The city canceled the May 4 election at its Feb. 28 meeting.
