PREVIEW: Montgomery County to consider creating new clean energy program, renaming South County Library

Montgomery County commissioners will consider creating a new clean energy incentive plan during the March 25 meeting, alongside renaming the new South Montgomery County Library and Community Center.

According to the meeting agenda, commissioners will look at officially adopting the Property Assessed Clean Energy Act, which was passed by the Texas legislature in 2013. The Texas Comptroller's Office oversees the administration of the PACE program, which would provide long-term and low-cost financing for commercial and multifamily residential developments to install energy and water-conserving infrastructure. The resolution states the county would only act as a third-party representative to lending agencies for organizations interested in participating in the program.

Commissioners will also consider a number of additional items, including:

• Renaming the South Montgomery County Community Center and Library, which is set to complete construction by the end of 2025
• Authorizing a tax abatement agreement with VGXI, Inc., a biopharmaceutical company moving to Conroe
• Identifying legislative priorities and key bills in the 89th Texas Legislature
