Montgomery County Sheriff's Office announces new non-emergency number

The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office on March 11 announced a new phone line which will handle calls for non-emergency police services.

According to a news release, the change was made to help streamline calls for service through the dispatch center. The old number is being transitioned to a general public information line for the sheriff's office, while the new number will be used for non-emergency police services.

• Non-emergency dispatch (new): 936-538-5900

"This change aims to reduce the number of non-law enforcement inquiries received by dispatchers, ensuring they remain available to handle 911 emergencies and law enforcement dispatch requests," the release states.

While residents can still dial 911 for emergency first responder assistance, the new call center will focus exclusively on non-emergency needs such as reporting thefts or other crimes which are not ongoing at the time of the call.
