Montgomery County municipalities see year-to-date sales tax allocations increase in 2021

The Texas comptroller’s office released monthly sales tax allocations for December on Dec. 8. The state is distributing a total of $936 million—a slight decrease from November’s $1.1 billion but an 18.4% increase from December 2020.

Montgomery County municipalities continued to demonstrate increases from the previous years, with all of Conroe, Magnolia, Montgomery and The Woodlands seeing increases. These allocations came from sales made and reported in Octobe.

Conroe received $4.9 million in sales tax allocations, a 22.21% increase from 2020. At the end of 2021, the city has received $59.6 million to date, a 17.04% increase from 2020, where its year-to-date payments totaled $50.9 million.

Magnolia received $454,416.50 in its December allocation, a 37.42 percent% increase in year-to-date payments in Montgomery County.

Magnolia officials told Community Impact Newspaper the discrepancy arose from an overpayment of allocations in early 2020.

The two special purpose districts that comprise The Woodlands Township saw increases in both monthly and year-to-date payments. The Woodlands Township Economic Development Zone saw a 37.23% increase in monthly payments, receiving $2.3 million while also receiving $27.2 million to date, an increase of 27.52%.

Meanwhile, The Woodlands Township district received $2.3 million in December—an 18.61% increase from the previous year—and finished the year with $28.8 million in sales tax allocations, a 16.41% increase from 2021.
