The Players Theatre Company has announced it will celebrate its 60th anniversary in the 2026-27 season. The theme for the season will be “Legacy and Revelations,” honoring the decades of work the company has provided to the greater Conroe area.
How did we get here?
Operating out of the Owens Theatre in downtown Conroe, the Players Theatre Company has expanded its function and community work since its original founding in 1966. Then known as the Little Theatre of Conroe, its productions were mostly at the Hunt Plumbing Supply Building before expanding to the Crighton Theatre.
Plays and musicals were performed there from 1979-2008, until the theater eventually moved to its current location, the Owens Theatre in downtown Conroe.
Cindy Siple, managing director for the Players Theatre Company, said the theater has grown over the last decade largely due to the support of the greater Conroe community.
“Live theater has a unique ability to bring people together,” Siple said. “Every production creates opportunities for learning, empathy, collaboration, and joy. Our success over the past 60 seasons belongs to every volunteer, donor, sponsor, artist and audience member who has been part of this remarkable journey.”
As previously reported, a new initiative the theater company had begun for the 2026 season is The Penguin Project. It is designed to give “young artists with developmental disabilities the opportunity to participate in a fully realized theatrical production alongside peer mentors,” according to a news release.
The celebration
On July 21, the Conroe City Council designated the day to be known as The Players Theatre Company Day to recognize the theater company’s contributions to the city of Conroe. The 60th season will kick off Aug. 14 with a production of the 1961 musical "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying."
