Updated: Runoff to be called for Montgomery County Precinct 2 constable, Gene Deforest in lead

Updated 11:08 p.m.: With 100% of precincts reporting, the number of votes for candidates vying for Montgomery County Precinct 2 constable has not changed. Gene DeForest leads with 39.58%, and a runoff will need to be called. Opponent Daniel Pena has the second-most votes with 25.15% and would be his likely opponent in a May runoff.

Updated 10:41 p.m.: With 91 of 100 election day precincts reporting on March 3, incumbent Gene DeForest still leads the Republican primary for Montgomery County Precinct 2 constable, at 2,845 votes, or 39.58%. Clyde Vogel has 24.79% of votes cast, Daniel Pena has 25.15% and David Eason has 10.48%, according to the Montgomery County Elections Office. All results are unofficial until canvassed.

If DeForest does not receive more than 50% of the votes cast, there will be a runoff election.

DeForest said in a phone interview that he preferred not to comment until results are final.

Published 7:52 p.m.: With four candidates vying for the Montgomery County Precinct 2 constable position, early voting numbers show incumbent Gene DeForest is leading the March 3 Republican primary race, according to the Montgomery County Elections Office.

DeForest has 1,601 votes; Daniel Pena has 1,048; Clyde Vogel has 917; and David Eason has 383, according to the Montgomery County Elections Office. All results are unofficial until canvassed.

The position is currently held by DeForest, who has been in office since 2001.

The winner of this race will not face a Democratic opponent, as no Democrats have filed to run in the March primary.
