Willis ISD officially names new elementary school

Willis ISD trustees Nov. 12 approved the name of the new Elementary School No. 7 as Ruth Castleschouldt Elementary School.

The new school is part of the district's $143 million 2022 bond and is set to open in August to serve grades kindergarten to fifth grade, as previously reported by Community Impact. The campus is located at 8150 MP Clark Road in Conroe, according to the district.

In a nutshell

Communications Director Sarah Blakelock presented the three school names that received the most votes from the 12 naming committee members who met Nov. 7. The district received 220 suggestions through its website, which were narrowed down to 89 submissions, Blakelock said.

"One of the things that was quite humorous for me is at one point everybody looked at me and said, 'We know who these top five are," Blakelock said.

The top five names selected by the committee were the following:

• Ruth Castleschouldt
• Virginia Nickerson
• Sue Ann Cargill Powell
• Julia Shanklin
• Carolyn Williams

"My only comment was for those people who gave their time to come to the committee and the other committees that we've had the past few years," board President Kyle Hoegemeyer said. "I appreciate your giving of your time and efforts."
