Conroe ISD outperforms state for spring 2026 STAAR testing results

The math test scores for third through seventh grade were lower compared to the results in 2025, with third grade math having the largest percentage difference, declining from 80% in 2025 to 75% in 2026.

In reading, CISD saw test scores decrease in third grade, fourth grade and sixth grade. Fifth grade matched its score compared to last year, and seventh and eighth grades received higher scores.

Data also shows that eighth grade students scored 67% in social studies this year, outperforming the state and last year's scores, which were 57% and 65%, respectively.

According to Texas Education Commissioner Mike Morath, the STAAR testing represents the hard work educators have done to support students and the recently passed Texas House Bill 1481.

As previously reported, HB 1481 prohibited the use of cell phones on campus, and CISD has reported a change in student behavior during the first year of the newly implemented policy.

“These results reflect the hard work of Texas students, educators and families and demonstrate that focused instruction and high expectations continue to produce positive outcomes for students across our state,” said Morath. “These results may also be reflective of the legislature’s ban on cell phone use in classrooms, so that students are better able to stay focused on their schoolwork while at school.”
