Conroe ISD dedicated its natatorium April 1 to Olympic gold medalist Laura Wilkinson. Wilkinson is a three-time Olympian who won a gold medal in platform diving at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia.
Wilkinson's website lists her hometown as The Woodlands. Her four children attend CISD schools, according to a news release April 3.
According to the release, Wilkinson also won gold at the 2004 World Cup and the 2005 World Championships. The honor inducted her as the first woman to win all three world titles. She is also the only American diver to win gold at the Goodwill Games in 1998.
In addition to her international success, the release stated Wilkinson earned 19 USA Diving National Titles, and was a two-time NCAA Champion and eight-time NCAA All-American at The University of Texas. She is also a member of five different halls of fame: The University of Texas Women’s Athletics Hall of Honor, the Texas Sports Hall of Fame, the Texas Swimming and Diving Hall of Fame, the World Acrobatics Society Gallery of Legends, and the International Swimming Hall of Fame.
