Steel City Pops, a family-owned popsicle company, opens its first Austin location on Guadalupe St. today. Owner Jim Watkins opened the first Steel City Pops store in Homewood, Alabama, in 2012, after being inspired by a Mexican paletas shop in Nashville and following a lifelong dream of owning a restaurant. The Guadalupe location will be the company’s twentieth and will offer fruity pops, in such flavors as blood orange, pineapple jalapeño and strawberry lemonade, and creamy pops in chocolate, coconut, coffee and lemon cream.
