Just over 1% of Travis County's 759,330 registered voters cast a ballot during the first day of early voting in the county's May 1 election.
A total of 8,183 Travis County voters participated in early voting April 19, including 7,425 in person and 758 by mail.
The early-voting period for this year's May election, which includes local elections such as Austin's slate of eight ballot propositions as well as council and school board races in surrounding cities, runs from April 19 through April 27.
This is the first May election that has included the city of Austin since 2016, when city voters defeated a proposition that led to ride-hailing services Uber and Lyft briefly stopping operations in the city. The city stopped holding May elections for the mayor and council members after 2012.
