Komé, owned by husband-and-wife duo Takehiro and Kayo Asazu, is commemorating 15 years of operations this fall.
“Austin has given us so much support over the years, and we feel very lucky to still be able to cook and serve the food we love after 15 years,” Takehiro and Kayo Asazu shared in a statement to Community Impact.
The setup
Takehiro and Kayo Asazu initially opened the restaurant in October 2011. The pair hoped to open a casual neighborhood restaurant where patrons could enjoy dishes that the founders grew up eating in Japan.
The couple wanted Komé to offer more than sushi, and instead have a menu filled with common Japanese dishes, sushi and izakaya-style food, according to Kayo Asazu.
On the menu
Komé offers nigiri, which can be made with a variety of fish including yellowtail, bluefin tuna, striped bass and jack mackerel. The restaurant also offers signature rolls, including the superstar, which is made with tuna, shrimp, squid, umé, daikon, cucumber and gold tobiko.
Customers can also order noodle dishes, rice-based meals and cold appetizers. Reisai, or cold appetizers, include the takowasa, which is made with raw octopus, wasabi and quail egg.

The owners are planning to host an anniversary celebration in October, with more details to come.
“We are incredibly thankful to all of the guests who have continued to come back, many of whom have become familiar faces and friends, and to our team members who have helped build Komé into what it is today,” Takehiro and Kayo Asazu shared in a statement to Community Impact.
