A 22-seat boutique steakhouse and bar named Big Slick opened in late August, bringing a chef-driven, fire-cooked menu from husband-and-wife Michelin-starred chefs Phillip Frankland Lee and Margarita Kallas-Lee.
The duo aims to make Big Slick Texas' first two-Michelin-star restaurant, according to a press release from the restaurant.
Meet the chefs
The husband-and-wife team is behind several other Austin restaurants, including Pasta Bar and Sushi by Scratch Restaurants, both also Michelin-starred, per the release.
"Big Slick is built around the things we love about classic dining—great ingredients, live fire, tableside service and a sense of occasion—but with the freedom and personality of an à la carte restaurant," Frankland Lee said in the release.

What’s on the menu
The restaurant's live-fire cooking centers on a wood-burning hearth visible from the dining room, with beef sourced exclusively from Lobel's of New York. Big Slick is the only restaurant in the country to receive Lobel's beef, according to the release.
Signature dishes include gulf prawns meunière, tartare of dry-aged filet mignon, duck breast, rack of lamb and changing wild-game preparations.
Chef Margarita Kallas-Lee, a multi-Michelin-starred pastry chef, oversees an in-house sourdough bread program and the dessert menu.
A cheese course features selections exclusively from Texas producers, served tableside.
The experience
Guests enter a candlelit bar accented by a deer-antler chandelier and commissioned artwork before being led behind red velvet curtains into the main dining room, per the release.
The meal opens with fresh popcorn cooked in beef tallow and duck fat–roasted garlic, and diners are presented with handcrafted Montana Knife Company steak knives before the main course arrives.
The bar operates independently from the dining room and offers oysters, canapés, cocktails and "bar dinners" on its own.
The eatery held its grand opening Aug. 29, according to an Instagram announcement. Reservations are open now. Walk-ins are accepted at the bar on a first-come, first-served basis. The restaurant is closed Mondays and Tuesdays.
