Somisomi
The Asian dessert shop is known for its Korean-style taiyaki, a fish-shaped waffle cake pastry. The pastry is filled with soft serve and a variety of flavored fillings and toppings. The shop also features a drink menu with cold brew, cold brew floats or strawberry milk.
Alice Poulain Café
Julian Buscicchio and Sebastian Menard expanded French cuisine offerings in South Austin with a new cafe: Alice Poulain. The Parisian-inspired patisserie serves a range of quiches, daily pastries, sandwiches, charcuterie spreads and imported wines.
The Driskill Grill and Bar
The Driskill Grill initially opened in 1930 and after nearly a century of service, MML Hospitality has relaunched the historic spot as an American steakhouse, according to a news release. The lunch and dinner menu features oysters, salads, sandwiches, steaks and a selection of sides.
CardVault by Tom Brady
The card and memorabilia store hosted its grand opening May 27. CardVault stocks a variety of cards, including sports, Pokémon, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Formula 1 and Marvel. The store also sells signed photos, framed jerseys and posters for baseball, wrestling, basketball and tennis.
Mad Hippie
Skincare company owners Dana and Sam Stewart opened their first storefront May 28. Mad Hippie stocks a variety of products including the Antioxidant Facial Oil and Vitamin C Serum, as well as a selection of ceramics, silk loungewear, Moroccan slippers and textiles.
Orion Custom Framing
The California-native business opened its third location in Austin in early June offering custom framing services. Orion Custom Framing is owned by Micha Ruiz and held a grand opening celebration June 6 with an art exhibition by Scottie O’Mahony, a local artist.
South Specialty Clinic
Austin Regional Clinic opened its new clinic June 1. The facility is 63,000-square-feet with 12 specialty services provided by 36 physicians and advanced practice clinicians. Patients at the location can access on-site lab and radiology services, neurology, cardiology and more.
Paloma Consignment
The new consignment boutique, owned by Caroline Phillips, is now open in North Loop, offering contemporary and designer women’s clothing and accessories. The store will stock brands such as DÔEN, Zimmermann and Lululemon.
Coming soon
Sweet Charli Girl
The founder and CEO of gluten-free bakery Sweet Charli Girl, Rachel Metts, announced on Instagram that she is opening a mainstay location in North Austin. The bakery sells cupcakes, specialty cakes, cookies, cheesecakes, peanut butter bars and more.
Feel Free IV
The wellness studio will offer proactive, personalized care through IV therapy, comprehensive blood testing, weight loss and metabolic health programs, hormone optimization and wellness consultations.
FitRanch Training and Recovery
The training and recovery hub is headed to North Loop, bringing group fitness classes, personal training and recovery resources, according to owners Aaron and Starla Keiser. The owners are targeting a late July opening date, with founding memberships on sale now.
Terrible Love Wine
Brian Knowles, owner of Terrible Love Coffee in Hyde Park, is expanding the Terrible Love brand to include a neighborhood wine bar. The bar will feature ethically and sustainably sourced wines, light bites and a space for neighbors to meet one another, according to Knowles.

Urban Egg
The eatery is known for its large menu of brunch offerings along with mimosas, bloody marys, espresso martinis and a variety of coffees, teas and juice. The TDLR filing lists a project cost of $400,000 with a completion date of December, but a representative for the business did not immediately respond to inquiries conforming this location or an expected open date.
Relocations
Bar Hacienda
The bar is now open at its new brick and mortar on Rainey Street, serving up reimagined classic cocktails and unique flavor combinations. The concept was founded by Terance Robson, creative director, and Jack Hogan, director of operations.
COVE
The women’s boutique relocated to South Lamar Boulevard after 10 years off South Congress Avenue, the shop announced in a news release. The boutique sells luxury swimwear, special occasion dresses, jeans, jackets, skirts, shoes, jewelry and accessories.
Expansions
El Dorado Cafe
The restaurant is expanding to accommodate more seating and broaden its catering offerings, owner Joanna Fried said. The menu features breakfast, lunch and dinner; vegan items; desserts and daily specials; and a full bar.
In the news
Bartlett’s
Bartlett's celebrated 40 years of serving steaks, wine and more in May. The steakhouse is known for its hand-cut fish and steaks, fresh-ground burgers, and other scratch-made items. The menu also features an extensive wine list and handcrafted cocktails.
Brentwood Social House
Suzanne Daniels, founder and owner of Brentwood Social House, announced her intention to step away from the business in a letter to the community. Now, she is looking for someone to purchase the business, create a new concept within the space, sublease the property or take over the lease.
East Side Pies
The Austin-based pizza restaurant commemorated its 20th anniversary in March. East Side Pies offers thin crust, specialty pies, sandwiches and salads. Owners Noah Polk and Michael Freid established the East-Austin born pizza shop in 2006.
Emo's Austin
The global entertainment company AEG Presents is renovating and rebranding the Emo's Austin property next year. The new space will complement AEG's nearby 65,000-square-foot indoor music venue project in the River Park mixed-use development, while the original venue plans a move downtown.
Lorraine "Grandma" Camacho Activity Center
The activity center is celebrating its 25th anniversary, honoring a longtime commitment to outdoor activities, youth programming and community, according to a news release. The center offers nature-based education, arts and culture programming and a youth filmmaking program.
Closings
Harper Sage
The women’s clothing and accessories brand shuttered its flagship store in North Austin on May 30, according to the brand’s social media. Harper Sage’s online store will close later this summer, owner and designer Megs Herman announced online.
Bar Peached
The restaurant and bar has shuttered its doors until further notice after a fire broke out in the attic. The fire was caused by malfunctioning kitchen equipment, according to an email newsletter from the business, and severely destroyed the building's roof early in the morning May 31.
Prototype Vintage
Prototype Vintage will close its South Congress location after 20 years of offering vintage clothing to locals and tourists alike. Co-owners Audrie San Miguel and Emily Larson will now focus efforts toward the new North Loop location that opened in December.
