Saturn, a downtown cocktail lounge, has closed permanently.
Bar owner Steven Smith shared news of Saturn’s closure on social media, letting followers know its last day of operation would be Oct. 8.
“I am very proud of the fight we put on these last three years in Austin,” Smith shared online.
The context
The cocktail bar initially opened in 2023, serving themed drinks, beers and small bites, according to previous Community Impact reporting. Snacks included deviled eggs, cheese fries and hot dogs.
What we know
Smith announced the closure in an Instagram post in early October, citing persistent financial strain as a factor in closing the business.
“We are choosing to bow out while still remaining true to what Saturn is,” Smith wrote. “No crowdfunding thing, not turning it into a waterdown concept.”
One more thing
For Saturn’s last day of operation, Smith invited patrons to share memories and photos, and purchase merchandise to help settle Saturn’s final financial obligations, according to the post.
