OutYouth held a groundbreaking ceremony on Oct. 6 to rebuild the organization’s headquarters, nicknamed the Blue Bungalow.
In conjunction with the groundbreaking, OutYouth launched the public phase of its Dream Campaign. The nonprofit is now looking for donors to help raise $1.3 million to aid in construction and maintenance of the new headquarters.
The background
OutYouth was founded in 1990 and serves LGBTQ youth and allies in Central Texas, offering programs and services. The organization helps individuals through social services, community education and mental health counseling, according to a news release.
About the project
The Dream Campaign is a $3.5 million capital campaign to reconstruct OutYouth’s Blue Bungalow, seed satellite sites and help maintain the facilities. Coming Home is the public phase of the campaign, which launched alongside the groundbreaking on Oct. 6. OutYouth has raised over $2.2 million toward the campaign goal, with $1.3 million left to go.
OutYouth planned to expand the Blue Bungalow in 2022 before a water leak in August 2024 caused severe damage to the property, rendering it uninhabitable. The Dream Campaign would rebuild the bungalow, expanding it from 1,700 square feet to 4,500 square feet. The new space would allow OutYouth to grow its team of counselors and social workers, programs and clients, according to the release.
