A more than $10 million expansion project at Veterans Memorial Pool is set to be completed in the fall of 2027 after Cedar Park City Council approved a construction contract Sept. 10.
The project
The project is centered on a planned 8,000-square-foot wave pool and will also include a 5,000-square-foot building that will house a stage overlooking the pool, restrooms, and filtration and wave equipment, city documents state.
The expansion will also add 84 new parking spaces, covered cabanas and other shade structures, Senior Project Manager Paul Naughton said.
The project will also include construction of drainage ponds, utilities, retaining walls and lighting, according to city documents.

Funding the project
Funding for the pool expansion comes from the voter-approved 2022 bond program.
Construction firm STR Constructors was chosen from among four proposals received by the city based on a combination of proposed cost, experience and proposed schedule, city documents state.
Some context
Veterans Memorial Pool is the city’s most popular pool, serving up to 40,000 visitors every year, Parks and Recreation Director Mike DeVito said.
Several other ideas were considered for the pool expansion, including a lazy river and a design with tall water slides and a splash pad, DeVito said. City officials ultimately chose the wave pool design because it will increase the facility’s visitor capacity and offer lower operating costs compared to other designs, he said.

“I think it’s great for all different age groups,” council member Alexis Frezza said. “One of the reasons we [chose this project] was because you can do things for people of all ages.”
What’s next
The existing Veterans Memorial Pool will remain open through the 2027 summer pool season, and city parks and recreation staff will work with construction crews to limit the impact on existing park use, according to city documents. Construction is expected to be completed in fall 2027.
