“A lot of folks like to say, ‘Hey, thank you for your service,’ ... and veterans appreciate that. But for us, it goes beyond just thanking folks,” Uribe said.

His company’s mission is to gain business through federal and state contracts, or staffing opportunities with businesses, and fill those positions with military veterans, spouses or their dependents, Uribe said.

The company provides a variety of professional, technical and administrative services to government agencies and contractors, but the business largely handles contracts. Some of those include agreements to provide logistics consulting for the Texas Army National Guard at Camp Mabry and Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, and another provides support for the International Space Station.

“We have folks who are responsible for testing the software and the hardware to ... ensure that when it goes up, it’s not going to cause a problem with any of the systems up in space,” Uribe said.

Recruit Veterans is a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business, a certification that limits its competition for some federal contracts and benefits contractors.

In 2015, Recruit Veterans was named on Inc.’s 5,000 Honor Roll, an annual ranking of the fastest-growing private companies in the U.S. for five or more years in a row.

Recruit Veterans employs about 50 people, many of whom are veterans, and supports several veteran-related nonprofits, Uribe said.

“Even if we hire a nonveteran, somewhere down the road there’s going to be a benefit for a veteran,” he said.

Steve Johnson, a contractor with Recruit Veterans, said he found his current role with the Texas Army National Guard when Uribe contacted him. Johnson, who was deployed as a tank commander three times in the Army, said he was impressed with the company.

“There’s a brotherhood that comes with [military] service,” Johnson said. “You know that they’ve got your back because that’s what they’ve been trained to do.”
