In honor of National Library Week, Leander Public Library is celebrating with a series of events April 14–20.
This year's theme, "Communities Matter at Your Library," educates people about the role libraries play in a community by offering a variety of print, digital and audio collections. In addition, the library hosts special events and programs year-round that help educate guests about the community and the world.
This year, Leander Public Library becomes a part of the Central Texas Digital Consortium, a digitization of a variety of e-books, such as "The Help," "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" and the Harry Potter books, as well as audio books, videos and music in addition to collections already at the library. Members also have access to media from other participating libraries, including the Cedar Park Public Library and the Georgetown Public Library, and the material is available for download on e-readers or mobile devices from any location.
"It makes it convenient for people to be able to go to the library without actually having to," Leander Public Library Director Priscilla Donovan said. "It's nice to be able to carry a hundred books without having to carry around a suitcase."
