Cedar Park rezones 200 acres for future Lakeline Park

In Cedar Park, 200 acres between Little Elm Trail and Bell Boulevard are now zoned as open space recreation for the city's planned Lakeline Park.

Cedar Park City Council approved the park rezoning at its June 11 meeting in a unanimous consent agenda vote. Council previously approved the park’s master plan in December 2018 after public meetings and online surveys.

At the June 5 council meeting, Parks & Recreation Director Curt Randa said construction is scheduled to begin in spring 2021 and last 12-16 months. He estimated the first park phase would be completed in early 2022.

Phase One will include picnic pavilions, a multipurpose pavilion, playgrounds, a great lawn area, a canoe and kayak launch, fishing pier, multipurpose fields, restrooms, parking and about three miles of trails, Randa said. Master plan site improvements are estimated to cost $21.7 million with construction contingencies and soft costs, according to the approved master plan.

The land zone changed June 11 from six zoning types to open space recreation. The land supports three goals of the city comprehensive plan, including future land use, public facilities and livability. The Cedar Park Planning & Zoning Commission unanimously recommended the zoning changes May 5.

No members of the public spoke at the May 5 P&Z meeting or at the May 28 City Council meeting.
