A total of 38,465 votes were cast in the race in Travis and Williamson counties. MacKay first commended Bundy for his work on the board. Then, he said he was humbled by the voters' decision and would work tirelessly to be worthy of the community's trust. "The community has placed their faith in me to fulfill the promises I made during the campaign, and I look forward to working with the board of trustees and [Superintendent] Dr. [Dan] Troxell to lead from the front, support our amazing teachers and provide the absolute best education for our children," he said. The Place 3 race had the highest voter turnout with a total of 45,180 votes cast in both counties. Place 3 incumbent Trustee Pamela Waggoner retained her seat on the board, earning 25,566 votes, or 56.6 percent. Challenger Chris Remy earned 19,614 votes, or 43.3 percent. In the race for Place 4, incumbent Trustee Grace Barber-Jordan retains her seat on the board, with 21,500 votes, or 51.2 percent. Her challenger, Scott Rowe, earned slightly more votes than Barber-Jordan in Travis County, but fell behind in Williamson County. In both counties combined, Rowe earned 19,855 votes, or 48 percent. A total of 41,355 votes were cast in the Place 4 race. Posted 10:25 p.m. Challenger Jim MacKay continues to lead the race for Leander ISD board of trustees Place 5, according to Travis and Williamson counting voting results. MacKay earned 66.17 percent of vote, including early votes, in both counties combined. Incumbent Trustee Russell Bundy earned 33.83 percent of the vote. A total of 31,876 votes have been counted so far in the race in both counties, including early votes. Although he was not yet ready to declare victory, MacKay said he was stunned at the results so far. “I’m absolutely humbled that the residents have responded the way that they did,” he said. “If it goes in my favor, I’m going to work hard to be worthy of their trust every day.”

2 incumbents, one newcomer ahead in early voting totals 

Posted 7:15 p.m. Challenger Jim MacKay is leading the race for Leander ISD board of trustees Place 5, according to early voting results. MacKay earned 65.64 percent of the early vote in Williamson County and 66.94 percent of the early vote in Travis County. Incumbent Trustee Russell Bundy earned 34.36 percent of the early vote in Williamson County and 33.06 percent of the early vote in Travis County. Of the total 30,315 votes cast in the race so far in both counties, MacKay has earned 66.04 percent of the vote, compared to Bundy's 33.96 percent. Incumbent Trustee Pamela Waggoner is leading based on early votes in both counties for Place 3. Waggoner has 58.4 percent of the vote against challenger Chris Remy's 41.6 percent in Williamson County early voting results and 56.31 percent of the Travis County early vote to Remy's 43.69 percent. Of the total 35,598 votes cast in both counties, Waggoner has earned 57.69 percent so far, compared to Remy's 42.31 percent. Incumbent Trustee Grace Barber-Jordan is leading the Place 4 race in Williamson County with 54.02 percent of early voting results against challenger Scott Rowe's 45.98 percent. But in Travis County, Rowe has a slight lead on Barber-Jordan, with 50.62 percent of the vote compared to Barber-Jordan's 49.38 percent. Of the total 32,611 votes cast in both counties, Barber-Jordan leads the race with 52.55 percent of the vote, compared to Rowe's 47.45 percent.

Leander ISD candidates campaign before close of the polls on Election Day 

Posted 4:21 p.m. Leander ISD board of trustees incumbents Pamela Waggoner and Russell Bundy campaigned outside of polling locations in the school district today despite some rainy weather. Waggoner faces challenger Chris Remy to retain her Place 3 seat. Bundy faces challenger Jim MacKay for Place 5. MacKay is on active duty and will be working with recruits at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio when tonight's results come in. He said his wife will send him updates via text throughout the night. Incumbent Place 4 trustee Grace Barber-Jordan faces challenger Scott Rowe, who recently moved to the area from California. Rowe will hold a watch party from his home, according to his campaign Facebook page.
