Leander mayor orders 6 feet of social distancing, or face coverings, in businesses

Leander Mayor Troy Hill issued an order mandating that employees and customers maintain 6 feet of social distancing. In situations where distancing is impossible, face coverings must be worn.

The disaster declaration, issued June 29, was made due to “sharp increases in the positivity rate of COVID-19 cases in Williamson and Travis counties,” according to the release.

Mayors in Cedar Park, Georgetown and Hutto, as well as Round Rock City Council, have ordered that employees and customers wear face coverings inside businesses when social distancing is not possible.

"The region's recent spike in positive coronavirus cases is alarming," Hill said in the release. "Although it hasn't hit our city as hard as others, I want to give Leander businesses an opportunity to protect themselves and their customers. In consultation with neighboring city mayors, we all agree that redoubling this prevention effort is critical to keeping local business alive."

Leander plans to hold its Fourth of July Celebration by issuing limited tickets and offering limited parking.

As of June 29, Williamson County has 1,165 active cases, with 863 recovered, per the report.
