Leander ISD to hold Nov. 6 COVID-19 vaccine clinic for ages 5-11

Leander ISD will hold a vaccine clinic Nov. 6 for ages 5-11, according to a Nov. 3 announcement. About 1,000 shots will be available.

The clinic will be from 1-5 p.m. at the Leander Extended Opportunity Center, located at 300 S. West Drive, Leander. No appointments are necessary, but paperwork can be filled out in advance online or in person on paper, according to LISD.

On Nov. 2, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommended the Pfizer pediatric vaccine for ages 5-11. This expanded vaccine recommendations to about 28 million children in the United States, according to the CDC.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration authorized the emergency use of the Pfizer vaccine for ages 5-11 on Oct. 29.

"The vaccine was found to be 90.7% effective in preventing COVID-19 in children 5 through 11," according to an FDA release.

On Nov. 3, the Texas Department of State Health Services published a list of providers that will receive pediatric vaccine shipments in the course of the next week. There are 46 providers in Travis County set to receive pediatric vaccine shipments this week and 15 in Williamson County. Austin-area providers such as Austin Regional Clinic and North Austin Pediatrics are among those receiving pediatric doses.

Austin Public Health and Williamson County and Cities Health District will also be offering vaccinations for 5- to 11-year-olds.
