Parents looking for an alternative to regular neighborhood trick-or-treating this Halloween can bring their children to a community event instead. For example, the Leander Police Department will be hosting a trunk or treat event on Halloween night. “It makes for a safer environment (with less walking) and allows us to host even more fun, like contests and games,” said Jackson Mitchell, support service lieutenant for Leander Police Department. If children will be trick-or-treating around their neighborhoods, parents should go with them and inspect candy when they get home, he said. Mitchell also said residents should call the police if they see suspicious or criminal activity.
