Widening, improvements, drainage rehabilitation: 4 Bryan-College Station road updates to follow

Here are four road projects that are coming up or already under construction in the cities of Bryan and College Station, as well as Brazos County, according to city officials and capital improvement project information. This list is not comprehensive.

Bryan:

Hardy Weedon Traffic Signal & Road Improvement Phase 1

Project: This project includes reconstruction of approximately 3,000 linear feet of Hardy Weedon Road from its intersection with State Highway 30 to the city limits at Reveille Estates, as well as the installation of a traffic signal at the intersection of Hardy Weedon Road and State Highway 30. Phase 1 includes the installation of the traffic signal and a short section of road reconstruction.

Update: The city expects the delivery and start of installation of the traffic signals in August.

• Timeline: expected to be completed by the end of September 2026
• Cost: $835,180
• Funding source: fiscal year 2028 bonds

Bristol Street & Esther Boulevard Drainage Improvements

Project: This project will replace the existing storm sewer collection system to increase capacity to Burton Creek, as well as install new storm sewers within existing rights of way.

Update: Work continues on Esther and Bristol, and the construction is approximately 63% complete.

• Timeline: current phase expected to be completed by winter 2026 or spring 2027
• Cost: $7,264,127
• Funding source: Fund 245 – Drainage Fee

College Station:

Southwest Parkway Drainage Rehab

Project: This project aims to replace 500 feet of storm sewer, a culvert crossing and manage waterlines, pavement and traffic.

Update: City Council greenlit a construction contract with Larry Young Paving, Inc. at its May 18 meeting.

• Timeline: construction is expected to begin in mid to late July
• Cost: $750,000
• Funding source: certificates of obligation, Streets Capital Improvement Project Funds

Brazos County/Texas Department of Transportation:

BS-6R (Texas Avenue) Improvements Project

Project: Plans are to improve safety and mobility along BS 6-R (Texas Avenue) from Old Hearne Road to FM 60 (University Drive), with the project to be completed in multiple phases.

Update: Phases 1 and 2A of the project are complete.

• Timeline: funding delays push back major work to the fall of 2027
• Cost: $26 million
• Funding source: State Highway Fund
