Bryan-College Station will have closures on the Harvey Mitchell turnaround and on Briarcrest off Hwy. 6 throughout the week.

'Big 6' is a long-term TxDOT project along Hwy. 6 through Bryan and College Station, aimed at helping the developing cities deal with growing traffic.

What you need to know

  • Sept. 21: Turnaround closure of the northbound and southbound frontage roads at Harvey Mitchell Parkway, 7:30 p.m.-6:30 a.m.

    • Both roads’ turnarounds will be closed for bridge demolition work.

    • Both northbound and southbound main lanes between Southwest Parkway and Briarcrest Drive, as well as between Barron Road and William D. Fitch Parkway will be closed for center median and drainage work, respectively. 

    • The southbound auxiliary lanes from Rock Prairie Road to Barron Road will also be closed for dirt work.

  • Sept. 22:  Single-lane closure of the northbound and southbound mainlanes between Southwest Parkway and Briarcrest Drive, 7:30 p.m.-6:30 a.m.

    • The left lane will be closed for center median work.

    • The southbound auxiliary lanes from Rock Prairie to Barron roads will also be closed for dirt work.

    • The turnaround lanes on the northbound and southbound frontage roads at Harvey Mitchell Parkway will continue to be closed for demolition work.

  • Sept. 23: Single-lane closure of the southbound frontage road from Barron Road to William D. Fitch Parkway, 7:30 p.m.-6:30 a.m.

    • The lane will be closed for concrete removal. The exit and entrance ramp north of William D. Fitch will also be closed.

    • The southbound auxiliary lanes from Rock Prairie to Barron roads will also be closed for dirt work.

    • The turnaround lanes on the northbound and southbound frontage roads at Harvey Mitchell Parkway will continue to be closed for demolition work.

  • Sept. 24: Turnaround closure of the northbound and southbound frontage roads at Harvey Mitchell Parkway, 7:30 p.m.-6:30 a.m.

    • Both roads’ turnarounds will be closed for bridge demolition work.

What’s next

TxDOT will be maintaining two open main lanes in each direction during construction. A majority of the work will be on the main lanes, along with the construction of temporary pavement and retaining walls.

Additionally, TxDOT said its website will be down for maintenance during the week of Sept. 21-27.
