Here are six road projects that are coming up or already under construction in the cities of Bryan and College Station, as well as Brazos County, according to city officials and capital improvement project information. This list is not comprehensive.
College Station
Rehabilitation of James, Puryear, Francis
Project: Spanning from Francis Road to James Parkway and Puryear Drive, the project will add a new subgrade, concrete roadway, curb gutters and concrete sidewalks.
Update: Construction is set to start soon with finalizations in the works.
Timeline: To begin by the end of summer or the beginning of fall.
Cost: $7 million
Funding source: Capital Improvement Projects bonds
Greens Prairie Road-County Section
Project: The project will widen a two-lane road to a four-lane road with added medians and improved pedestrian facilities.
Update: Finalizations are in the works with the city finishing out the rezoning of 222 acres.
Timeline: Construction is set to take 18 months and start in early 2027.
Cost: $12.5 million
Funding source: Capital Improvement Projects bonds
Bryan
Mumford Road Widening Phase 1
Project: Reconstruction and widening of the roadway beginning at the intersection of Mumford Road and Harvey Mitchell Parkway with a continuous center turn lane. Also includes drainage improvements.
Update: The project is approximately 75% complete, as of late August.
Timeline: Estimated to be completed by the end of the year.
Cost: $7,164,044
Funding source: 2024 Bonds; EDA Grant; City of Bryan and Brazos County Economic Development Foundation Interlocal Agreement
Southbound Texas Avenue Closure
Project: Starting on Sept. 7, the southbound lane on Texas Ave. between 27th and 28th streets will be closed as construction crews continue to work on that side of the Brazos County Administration Building.
Update: Construction has begun and the lane is closed.
Timeline: Project is to be completed in spring 2027; closure expected to last until the end of 2026.
Cost: $18.5 million (entire remodel)
Funding source: Capital Improvement Program
Brazos County
FM 974 (Tabor Road) at SH 6 intersection modifications
Project: The project will widen Tabor Road and add new dedicated turn and through lanes to improve access to the SH 6 frontage roads. SH 6 southbound frontage road at Wilkes Street will be converted to one-way traffic and signals to provide more green light time. A new shared-use path will be constructed to safely connect residents to the transportation network.
Update: Construction is continuing and on time.
Timeline: Construction is expected to conclude by the end of the year.
Cost: $294,551,557 (shared with other projects)
Funding source: Federal and state funding, state and local taxes
William J. Bryan Parkway Improvements
Project: The project, aided by TxDOT, is to create better pedestrian safety from William J. Bryan to Hwy. 6, aid with traffic congestion, allow residents to easily access Haswell Park and make general improvements to drainage and infrastructure.
Update: The project has been delayed due to supply chain difficulties and damaged infrastructure.
Timeline: Completion expected sometime in early 2027.
Cost: $671 million (shared with other projects)
Funding source: TxDOT State Highway Fund
