The Brazos County Commissioner’s Court will meet June 9 to hear a county request for approval for up to $22 million to be wired to hospitals participating in the Comprehensive Hospital Increase Reimbursement Program, or CHIRP.

The biggest items on the agenda include transfers from the Texas Health and Human Services Commission, or HHSC, for the Brazos County Local Provider Participation Fund.
According to agenda material, CHIRP “is a directed payment program that provides for increased Medicaid payments to certain hospitals for inpatient and outpatient services provided to Medicaid enrollees. The target beneficiaries are adults and children enrolled in the STAR, STAR+PLUS, and STAR Kids Medicaid managed care programs.”
If approved, the money from the program will be for the first half of the Fiscal Year 2026-27. The last day for the court to submit for approval is June 12.

- Real Property Purchase: The approval of a contract with Mesquite Properties Joint Venture for the purchase of a property in the amount of $2.4 million. The property is commercial and it is unknown what the intended use of the land from the purchase will be at this time.
- Budget amendment: The Brazos County budget may be amended for $40,000 for expenses pertaining to “supplies and other charges” for jail correctional medicine. Paperwork says the “reallocation of funds to the appropriate account to cover the cost of inmate health care for the remainder of FY 2026.”
- Two management contracts: Commissioners are set to approve two contracts related to project and contract management softwares that will cost a little less than $200,000.
Also on the agenda is approval for Comcast to install two-inch fiber optic conduits on the right of way on several county roads, which include:
- Pleasant Hill Road:1,467 feet in ROW and one crossing
- W. 28th Street:5,333 feet in ROW and 11 crossings
- Walter Banks Road:605 feet in ROW
- Houston Road:1,049 feet in ROW and three crossings
- Higgs Drive: 518 feet in ROW and two crossings (207' in PUE)
- Lake Drive:299 feet in PUE
- Linda Lane: 4,950 feet in ROW and seven crossings
- Charlotte Lane: 1,601 feet in ROW and two crossings
